I was traveling around Maine in the Fall of 2003. I remember following a road out to the end where there was this little fishing town, Georgetown, Maine.
It was clearing to our East, but we had clouds blocking the Sun behind us as I drove out to the town. I was pulling into the parking lot and the sky behind me started to clear and the light just lite up the scene.
A farm in Westhampton, NJ. The photograph is from 2004. It was a wonderful day, I had been out photographing an assignment in Central Jersey, I got back into town and the light and clouds were wonderful that afternoon.
Here is an image of the Hudson River, from Highlands, NY from 1994.
Some memories stay with you over the years. I remember making this image. I wasn’t far off the road and there was a lot of traffic that day. I remember there was this awful smell. I wasn’t sure what it was or where it was coming from.
After I made my exposure and placed the camera back into my truck, I had to take a look around to try to see what was making the smell. I looked over the wall at the side of the road and there was a decomposing deer just over the wall. Most likely hit on the road and tossed over the wall to clear the road.
This is one of my best selling 8×20 images. This image was made as part of One Day in the Life of the Hudson, a shoot and show in 1992/1993 sponsored by the Hudson Highlands Museum, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.
This photograph later turned into one of my best selling images at the Robin Rice Gallery, in New York City.
